just loomis

 

Just Loomis is a graduate of Art Center College. He began his career in Milan, Italy.  After, in New York he was a regular contributor to Harper's Bazaar and the New York Times magazine. His photographs have been chosen Photo of the Year by American Photographer magazine and his album cover for AHA was nominated for a Grammy Award.

He was a longtime assistant and friend to Helmut Newton and his wife June.

In 1995 his singular dedication to documentary portraiture culminated in As We Are, his book of American portraits that was published in Berlin by Hatje Cantz, 2010 and that was a nominee for the prestigious Deutscher Fotobuchpreis. It was awarded Photobook of the year by PDN and Communication Arts magazine. 

Just holds workshops in his Venice, California studio as well as internationally in Germany, Norway and Belgium. He teaches his class, "Berlin Study Away" at Art Center College in Pasadena.
